Tourism

Keith's central position also lends itself to tourism, recognised by Keith Town Council in the sixties. From their Tourist Office sprang the germ of an idea which has developed into the internationally famous Whisky Trail. Coasts and hills within easy reach, parks and playgrounds for children, a swimming pool, all-weather floodlit tennis courts, an eighteen-hole golf course and the only remaining railhead in Banffshire add to Tourist potential. Plans are in hand to develop the Keith Dufftown railway as a steam-line of some eleven miles, which, with refurbishing of Dufftown station, and rebuilding of Keith Town, will attract 'Railway Buffs' from far and wide. To this is added ambitious plans for the Isla valley by Keith Initiative, backed by Moray Council and many local firms, and a further expansion of visitor facilities by Chivas Bros.
